Cold Shooting Too Much for Pokes to Overcome in Road Loss at Boise State

UW held to 35 percent from the field

BOISE, Idaho (Jan. 14, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowboys couldn't overcome cold shooting in a 96-55 road loss to Boise State on Tuesday evening in ExtraMile Arena in Boise, Idaho. Boise State countered the Pokes by shooting 58.5 percent and 50 first half points on their way to the win.

"Hats off to Boise State they shot the cover off the ball tonight and that was a response from a championship level team," UW head coach Sundance Wicks said. "Saturday's game is a must win for us and I told the team that in the locker room. I take a lot of pride in that game, and I know the state does as well. We can't sneak up on teams anymore when you have a reputation of being a sneaky team."

The Cowboys were led by Obi Agbim, as he recorded 16 points for his 15th game in double-figures this season doing so in every game he has played in this season. Dontaie Allen added 11 points for his third-straight game in double-figures. Scottie Ebube and Oleg Kojenets added four rebounds each to lead the Cowboys.

Wyoming finished the evening shooting 35.4 percent from the field and were held to only five three-point makes on the night. Boise finished the night shooting 58.5 percent and added 13 threes. Boise State held a 33-22 advantage on the glass.

After Agbim opened the contest with a triple, Boise State went on a 7-0 run to take a 7-3 lead with 16 minutes left in the first half. Touko Tainamo stopped the run with a layup. Boise State went on an 11-0 run later to take a 18-5 advantage with 10 minutes left in the opening stanza.

Cole Henry and Allen added back-to-back buckets to make it a 22-11 game for Boise State, but a three-pointer from Degenhart made it a 25-11 contest with under eight minutes on the clock in the first half.

After Henry and Allen made it a 25-15 game an and-one play from Tyson Degenhart pushed the game to a 28-15 lead for the Broncos at the 6:14 mark and the flowing trip a three-pointer made it a 16-point contest.

The Broncos would take a 50-21 lead into the half shooting 57 percent from the field. Boise State knocked down six threes in the first half.

Boise State continued the hot shooting to open the second half opening the frame shooting 4-of-5 and built a 61-23 lead. Kojenets added four quick points off the bench for the Pokes. It was the most points he had score since the Tulane contest.

The Broncos continued the pressure on the Pokes throughout the second half shooting 67 percent from behind the arc at one point with under 10 minutes left in the half. The Broncos would take the contest 96-55.

Boise State was led by Julian Bowie with 16 points going 5-of-6 from behind the arc. Andrew Meadow added 18 points with the Broncos having five players in double-figures.

Wyoming hosts Colorado State on Saturday, January 18 inside the Arena-Auditorium for the first Border War matchup of the season at 2 p.m.
