Diana Shelstead is no stranger to small towns, one of the reasons she chose to uproot herself and her business, Sunshine Cleaning, from Huntsville, Utah, and move to Newcastle with her husband, Tim Shelstead, in July of last year. A native of Hawthorne, Nev., Shelstead said she is excited to get back to a close-knit community and operate her business here.
Sunshine Cleaning, which got its start in 2010 in Utah, was Shelstead’s first experience as a business owner. She didn’t want to work a 9-5 day, she said, so she took the leap into her new venture.
After working at a Wal-mart in Utah for eight years, then going to work for a different cleaning business for four years, it just made sense to start her own, Shelstead said.
“I just decided to start my own business. It took off well,” she said.
Now with 14 years of cleaning experience, Shelstead offers residential cleaning, vacation property management and even some small construction work. She also cleaned for a fitness center in Utah for a while, she said, so she’s willing to do whatever her clients need.
Shelstead said she enjoys the satisfaction of working hard and keeping homes clean, as well as making sure a job is done well — something that is of great importance to her.
“I’m very dependable and honest. I think honesty is one of the big things when you go into people’s houses,” she said, noting that trustworthiness is important when going into other people’s personal space — one of the reasons she does all the cleaning herself.
“I wanted it done right, and I wanted to have a good name and to be responsible,” she said.
Now, through Sunshine Cleaning, Shelstead said, she is excited to serve the people of Newcastle, a community she has come to love.
“I fell in love with it when he (Tim) brought me up here,” she said of Newcastle. Tim hails from Hot Springs, S.D., so he was already familiar with the area. The transition into the community has gone well for the Shelsteads, and she says they are happy to live here and have a fresh start.
