As of Monday, Feb. 11, the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial District is housed in the basement of the Weston County Courthouse. The office relocated from 6 W. Warwick St. to the courthouse, where the court will share a courtroom with the district court.
The county commissioners decided on the move earlier last year when they worked with Judge Matthew Castano on the courthouse’s second-floor remodeling project. The move is intended to save the county rent money and also allow the newly remodeled courtroom to be used more.
“Our official first day at the courthouse was on Monday,” said Barb Munger, circuit court clerk.
Munger said that the move will not change business through the court and that the court still has the same phone number.
“We just relocated from the city building to the county courthouse. Court will still be on Wednesday unless someone is in custody,” Munger said. “It will be the same as at the other building. We are just in the basement of the courthouse, and we will use the courtroom upstairs for court.”
As part of the move, district court has now returned to its customary location on the second floor.
“We moved upstairs on Friday. and we had our first day of court yesterday,” said Gidget Macke, district court clerk.
Macke said she does not believe that both courts using the same courtroom will cause any issues with scheduling because of the other electronic options, including teleconferences that are available in Weston County.
“We have two hubs, and they are always available if there is a scheduling conflict,” Macke said.
