Chris “Russ” passed away on Aug. 30, 2025, at the age of 95. Russ was born to Chris and Ann Christensen on Aug. 8, 1930, on the homestead his father claimed on the Cheyenne River Road in Niobrara County, Wyoming. He lived on the homestead all of his life except for the two years he served in the Army. He met his wife Ruth (McGurk) Christensen while they both were serving in the Army.

Ruth passed away on Jan. 17, 2014, at the age of 89. 

Ruth was born to Nathanial Orr McGurk and Louise (Dinkle) McGurk on Nov. 9, 1924, in Patterson, New Jersey, where she lived until she went to nursing school and then into the U.S. Army. 

Russ and Ruth were married Sept. 5, 1953, and were together for 60 years and raised three sons, Chris Michael, Thomas Joseph, and William “Bill” Russell Christensen. 

Russ and Ruth are survived by their sons, Tom (Deb) Christensen and Bill (Betty) Christensen; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

Russ and Ruth are preceded in death by their parents; son, Chris; brother, Fred Christensen; sisters, Jean (Christensen) Freeman and Doris (McGurk) Lovenduskie; and nieces and nephews. 

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. at Weston County Senior Citizens Center.
