Chamber hosts Easter Carnival and other Easter happenings

The Easter Bunny and eggs and cookies, oh my! Kids attending the Easter Carnival hosted by the Newcastle Area Chamber of Commerce will be able to get their hands on all three, according to Barbie Turner, the chamber’s co-director.
On April 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Newcastle Lodge and Convention Center, in the Cambria Room, children of all ages can enjoy several Easter-themed activities during the event.
“We decided to put this on so there was something for the kids in town for the holiday. I don’t think there is a lot going on, and we thought a carnival would be fun,” Turner said.
The event will feature several carnival-type games, including a fishing pond, duck pond, ball toss and other games. Kids can showcase their artistic talents in cookie and egg decorating. Face painting and pictures with
the Easter Bunny will be sure to attract plenty of youngsters.
According to Turner, each activity will cost one ticket and tickets will be available for $1 apiece. Children and parents will be able to purchase tickets at the door.
“The Lodge (Newcastle Lodge and Convention Center) will be giving away one ticket to the first 100 kids to come through the door. In addition, Team Properties will be giving away 25 tickets to the first 25 girls and 25 tickets to the first 25 boys,” Turner said. “Both of these businesses have been great to work with.”
The Lodge was chosen as a venue, she said, because Wyoming weather is unpredictable. During the event, Grazers Burgers and Beers, located inside the Lodge, will be selling “bunny meals” for those wanting to eat lunch during the carnival.
“It is going to be a fun little event. The kids will be able to do as much or as little as they want,” Turner said.

Bunny for hire
If the Easter Bunny gets a bit too busy, and needs a little extra help getting those eggs hidden, there’s additional help, thanks to the Newcastle Christian Women’s Services. The group will be selling candy-filled eggs, delivered and hidden in your yard for the kiddos to find.
“We thought this would be a great fundraiser for our ministry,” Shawn Smith said. “We also thought it would be something for the community to enjoy, something for both the kids and parents to appreciate.”
For $20, Smith and other members of the ministry will hide 25 candy-filled eggs in age-appropriate locations.
“I have told those who have already ordered, if they have younger kids, they will just be placed around the yard. For those with older children, we will hide the eggs and make the hunt more difficult,” she said.
The plan, Smith added, is to have all the eggs hidden before 8 a.m. on Easter morning.
All reservations must be made by Friday, April 2, by contacting Smith via Facebook or by calling 746-8905. All proceeds will go toward the Sol Food Ministry, a group of food-minded people delivering smiles and aid to those in need through meals prepared by Smith and others.
The hunt is on
After discovering there were no community Easter egg hunts scheduled for this year, the Cambria Community Baptist Church Faithful Warriors Youth Group came to the rescue, opening up their church hunt to the community.
On April 3 at the Weston County Fairgrounds, starting at 10 a.m., children of all ages will have the opportunity to gather as many eggs as possible.
According to information provided by the church, different age groups will have a chance to hunt for eggs, each starting at different times. Those groups include ages 2 and under, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11 and older.
“We wanted to do this for the whole community,” said Tamera Allen, who is organizing the event. “We are hoping for lots of community involvement.”
