Celebrate equality day

Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
In the Equality State, we call it Equality Day, and that is probably a better approach as it focuses on an ideal — instead of simply honoring the man who championed the ideal.
Regardless of what you choose to call Monday’s holiday, I think the best way to observe it is to make a special effort to treat each other with a little more dignity and respect than we might ordinarily — regardless of race, sex, political party or religion.
After all, the best way to feel equal is to act like we’re all in this thing together, and that starts by acknowledging that all of us bring value to whatever community we’re a part of.
As the days get colder and the warmth of the Christmas season starts to wear off, most of us could probably use a little lift.
So who are you going to hoist today?
