CCHS student arrested for making gun-related school threats
GILLETTE (WNE) — Police officers arrested a Campbell County High School student Tuesday for threatening school violence with a gun and later threatening to physically assault a principal.
School staff notified a principal at the school Tuesday about concerning comments the student made to a teacher, Police Deputy Chief Brent Wasson said. Those comments included threatening school violence with a firearm and later threatening to harm a principal with physical violence.
The student didn’t have a gun at the school, Wasson said, and the officers’ report did not clarify whether the student had access to a gun. Officers met with the student and a parent before the student was arrested and taken to the juvenile detention center.
The student was booked into jail at about 6:30 p.m Tuesday for terrorist threats, a felony, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office arrest log.
Wasson withheld the gender and age of the student because, he said, in prior investigations related to students with felony charges, County Attorney Nathan Henkes has “taken issue” with police providing that information.
