Casper party guest accused of eating pet goldfish
CASPER (WNE) — A Casper house party went off the rails when a guest allegedly ate a pet goldfish, leading to an animal cruelty charge.
The teen, who is either 16 or 17 years old based on court documents, faces up to six months in jail, according to state animal cruelty statute.
Juvenile cases sometimes appear in public records before being formally moved to juvenile court. The district attorney’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the charge against the teen.
The Star-Tribune is withholding the defendant’s name because it has not been confirmed whether he is being charged as an adult. According to court documents, a warrant was issued for the teen’s arrest citing his “extensive criminal history.”
Authorities allege he intentionally acted “to seriously injure or destroy any domesticated animal owned by another person while the animal is on property where the animal is authorized to be present.”
The Casper Police Department was first alerted to the incident when a Casper father returned home with his wife and children after a two-day trip, according to an affidavit filed with the charge. The father allegedly told authorities he left his son in charge of the home for two days. During that time, the son is said to have thrown a house party.
Upon returning home, the father purportedly told authorities the house was in disarray. And the family’s pet goldfish was missing.
The son told officers he initially didn’t want to throw the party, but a friend persuaded him, Casper Police Officer John Everett wrote in the affidavit. The alleged goldfish eater arrived at the party uninvited. A friend warned the host that the newly arrived teen was “dangerous,” but the son didn’t know how to get him to leave, he told Everett.
Before long, that “dangerous” partygoer ate the goldfish, according to the affidavit.
The homeowner’s wife provided officers with a video showing the teen eating the goldfish, Everett wrote.
