CASPER (WNE) — A Casper man faces six counts of sexual exploitation of children after 14 separate tips from Synchronoss, a cloud storage service provider, were submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to an affidavit filed in district court.

Joshua Curry, born 1981, estimated there were “over a hundred” images of child sexual abuse material on his phone, according to Special Agent Drew Cotton, who signed the affidavit.

Cotton added that Curry claimed to be unaware that possession of such material was illegal.

The court filing indicated that the cellphone tied to the Synchronoss reports was administered under and paid by Curry’s mother. Curry was eventually identified as a suspect by investigators after they found credit bureau reports under his name tied to that cellphone, Cotton wrote.

According to the document, Curry said he’d been living in his family’s basement for two to three years. Curry also told investigators in an interview that he was collecting the 34 files of child sexual abuse material he is accused of possessing for the purpose of reporting others to law enforcement.

All 14 tips cited in the affidavit were submitted between October 2023 and January 2024.

Curry faces felony charges in the case after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing.

The six charges carry a maximum collective penalty of 60 years in prison and a $60,000 fine. Curry is scheduled to be arraigned on June 6.
