Casper airport sees 13-year high enplanements after pandemic

CASPER (WNE) — A year and a half after Delta ceased serving the Casper-to- Salt Lake City route, the Casper/ Natrona County International Airport continues to see an increase in passengers boarding out of Casper.

Enplanements, or the number of passengers boarding an aircraft, at Casper/Natrona County International Airport are at a 13-year high for the first quarter of the year, said Katie Reed, communications and air service manager.

The airport does distinguish between enplanements and deplanements, which are slightly lower at just under 9,000 but at a similar high point, Reed said.

Despite the absence of Delta in 2025, the airport’s enplanement numbers increased from the previous year.

Airport passengers are served by SkyWest Airlines, which previously carried the contract for Delta Airlines and United Airlines. Delta flew once daily to Salt Lake City until early December 2024.

The 99,898 enplanements in 2024 were surpassed by more than 103,000 enplanements for all of last year — an increase of 4%, Reed said.

There have not been any significant changes to explain the increase in numbers, but Reed said the airport has historically worked hard with United Airlines to bring ticket prices down.

“They’re still high for some folks, but we have worked with them to make those prices a little more competitive to keep people flying in Casper,” she said.

Part of the increase is likely a result of United Airlines adding a seventh flight in 2025, Reed said.

Doing a direct one-to-one comparison of airline numbers would not be fair to either Delta or United because airlines and airports were still recovering from the pandemic in 2024, said Reed.

“I think giving folks those options and at different times to catch connections in Denver really helped us keep those numbers up despite losing an alternative option,” she said.
