CAROL LEA DEWEY

Nov. 15, 1950–Aug. 2, 2024

Carol Lea Dewey, 73 of Carlile, Wyoming — known to all for her exuberance and love for life — passed away on Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, with her family by her side.

Carol was born to Lyle and Juanita (Deeder) Griffith on Nov. 15, 1950, in Gillette, Wyoming. She was the middle of three children. Though she faced more lifelong health challenges than most, she was still a typical kid who found herself, her brother Otis, and sister Sandy in plenty of mischief.

Carol graduated from Moorcroft High School and went on to get an associate’s degree in business in Billings, Montana. Prior to graduating high school, she met her lifelong dance partner. She and Bill were married on July 3, 1971. They spent a few years in Miles City, Montana, on a ranch where Carol perfected her biscuits and gravy recipe. While living there, daughter Shayla was born. After moving back to the Moorcroft area, Bill and Carol welcomed their son, Travis.

In 1979, Bill and Carol moved back to the Griffith family ranch near Carlile. This would be her home for the next 45 years. While living on Thorn Divide, Bill and Carol started their family business, Tri-City Excavation.

Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, Bill and Carol were involved in the Wyoming Young Farmers and Ranchers Association. During this time, they made lifelong friends and visited many parts of the country — with plenty of bathroom stories to tell from that time.

Bill and Carol lived their lives to the fullest, spending countless hours traveling and visiting friends all over the country. They traveled from coast to coast, as far south as San Antonio, and as far north as Alaska — never making it very far before stopping to meet with old friends or make new ones.

Carol spent most of her free time serving others. She was a member of the Moorcroft First Presbyterian Church and was active in the Pine Ridge Community Church and Pine Ridge Ministries. She served on boards for both churches. She also served as an election judge, was a member of the Moorcroft Historical Society, and was involved with the Crook County Fair. Some of her favorite pastimes include cake decorating, taking pictures, quilting, and loving on her five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and countless others who lovingly called her Grandma Carol or Aunt Carol. She was always looking for a friendly competition. This might lead her to challenge you to a game of cards, or a round of Indian leg wrestling.

Carol was greeted in heaven by her Lord Jesus; her parents, Lyle and Juanita Griffith; and her in-laws, Laurence and Dorothy Dewey.

She will be remembered here on earth by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Shayla (Scott) Graham and their family, LaNae (Rowdy) Curr, their children Traylin and Kope, and Dace (Morgan) Graham; and son, Travis (Gina) Dewey, and his family, Chaz, Lathan, and Gabby. She will also be remembered by her brother, Otis (Linda) Griffith; sister, Sandy (Pat) Wilder; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Moorcroft Town Center Gymnasium at noon. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with burial and luncheon to follow. Memorials have been established in Carol’s name.
