CARLOS GENE HOLWELL

Carlos Gene Holwell was born on May 23, 1947, at the Lutheran Hospital in Hot Springs, South Dakota, to Milton and Esley (Childs) Holwell of Osage, Wyoming.  

Carlos passed away on Nov. 26, 2024, at the home of his daughter in Tennessee, from an apparent heart attack.

Carlos graduated from Upton High School with the class of 1965. Shortly after graduation, Carlos joined the United States Air Force. After discharge, he was a member of both the Army and Air Force National Guard in Ohio. He served a total of 34 years and 10 months. 

Carlos retired from Cooper Tool and Die in Springfield, Ohio, after 27 years of service. Prior to his death, he was a proud member of the Honor Guard for the Bulls Gap VFW Post No. 9683 in Tennessee.

Carlos is survived by his three daughters, Debra (Kenneth) Goodson of Tennessee, Carla (John) Anderson, and Christina Holwell, both of Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Casey Holwell of Arizona; sisters, Jenness (John) Stienmetz of Wyoming, and Carey (Mel) Hamilton of South Carolina; aunt, Lydia Childs of Wyoming; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and numerous cousins.

Carlos was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles, and his wife of almost 50 years, Cindy Kline Holwell, who passed away on April 15, 2024, in Ohio.

A memorial service was held in Tennessee at the Bulls Gap VFW on December 21, 2024. Military honors will be held on June 27 at 11:30 a.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. Carlos’ cremains will be laid to rest with his parents, Milton and Esley. All are invited to the Loud American Roadhouse at 1305 Main St., Sturgis, after the service for fellowship.
