Newcastle High School will host its annual Career and Trade Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the Dogie Dome.
School staff members said they are excited to provide students and recruiters with a day of learning and engagement designed to help students prepare for life after graduation.
The afternoon will begin with workshops for underclassmen led by the school’s Sources of Strength empowerment group. The sessions focus on principles from the Sources of Strength color wheel while emphasizing the importance of career exploration and decision-making.
Juniors and seniors will spend the afternoon in the Dome visiting with a wide range of vendors who will share their personal experiences, career paths and daily work life. Career fields represented include automotive, industry, finance and insurance, food, health, human services, hospitality, agriculture, marketing, retail, art, technology, communications, city, county and state government, colleges and universities, law and the military, among others.
Organizers said the variety of options allows students to explore many possible career paths and encourages them to ask questions, even if they already have an idea of what they would like to pursue.
The school’s planning committee is led by Zach Beam and Maggie Unterseher. Unterseher said she is excited about the turnout for this year’s event.
“We’ve never had this phenomenal of a turnout,” Unterseher said. “It’s about the kids, after all. The staff and I just want the kids to have the best opportunity possible to help ensure success for all the students here at Newcastle High School.”
