Capitalism is for the few, not the many

Dear Editor,
If we do not hold our duties to each other more important — and above — our self-serving individual “rights” we will find that someone greedier and meaner will come along and spoil our plan.
This has nothing at all to do with the politics of left and right. Politics is primarily, if not exclusively, a cheering squad to help individuals get elected. Right, left and other jump into this free for all.
Only after they are elected do they reveal their true allegiance. The current, if only occasional, resident in the White House campaigned with a populist theme of restoring the “good old days.” The campaigns of candidates in both parties tend to  gloss over the rough spots and emphasize whatever is thought to be popular.
The right wingers are usually considered to be all about serving themselves. The liberal left are usually considered to be all about serving everybody.
Examination of the recent campaign and its results should be illuminating.  As advertised, the right wingers passed a giant tax relief bill, but it only benefited the very rich. There was very little for the likes of you and me.
Worse yet, the shortfall gets added to the national debt, which will eventually get paid off but not by the very rich who have received the benefits.
Yup! You and I get to pay for the benefits that were freely given to the very rich.
Isn’t undiluted capitalism just so great?
