The Republican Central Committees for Goshen, Niobrara and Weston counties selected three names – Lusk’s Greg Matney, Newcastle’s Allen Slagle and Lusk’s J.D. Williams – during their Oct. 14 meeting to nominate a replacement for former Rep. Hans Hunt. Hunt resigned earlier this month to join Sen. Cynthia Lummis’ team in Washington, D.C.
The Board of Weston County Commissioners will meet with the boards from both Goshen and Niobrara counties on Oct. 19 to select Hunt’s replacement from the three names submitted by the committees.
According to Weston County Commission Chairman Marty Ertman, the meeting is open to the public and will be held at 10 a.m. at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds, 4080 U.S. Highway 20.
Weston County Republican Party Chairman Kari Drost explained in an email that each county’s commissioners’ votes will be weighted based on that portion of the population of the county that falls within the boundaries of House District 2. She said that each candidate will be interviewed by the commissioners from the three counties at the meeting before they cast their official votes.
The process for replacing an elected official who has resigned is outlined in Wyoming Statute 22-18-111(a)(ii).
