CHEYENNE (WNE) — A resident of Burns was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash into a stationary train Friday evening.

The driver of the pickup involved, 45-year-old Burns resident John Balczewski, was not wearing a seat belt. He did not survive the injuries he suffered in the crash

At approximately 5:21 p.m. Friday, the Laramie County Sheriff ’s Office responded to reports of a vehicle and train crash on County Road 154 just north of Interstate 80.

According to LCSO, a train was sitting stationary across Road 154. The railroad crossing gate was down, and the railroad crossing warning lights were flashing when a pickup traveling northbound on Road 154 ran into the side of the train.

The LCSO expressed its condolences to Balczewski’s family and friends in a Facebook post regarding the incident.
