COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 27, 2026) – Senior thrower Cam Burkett was named the Mountain West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, his fourth career conference weekly honor, the league office announced Tuesday.

In the shot put at the Bobcat Challenge, Burkett matched his season best and indoor personal best throw of 19.05 meters for first. In doing so, he broke another facility record, now holding Colorado’s and Montana State’s indoor records. Burkett’s mark of 19.05 meters is the No. 12 throw in the nation this season, No. 2 in the Mountain West this season and tied for third in Wyoming indoor history.

This marks Burkett’s third career MW Field Athlete of the Week award and first in an indoor season. He was previously honored on April 29, 2025, and March 26, 2024, as Outdoor Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and previously won Freshman of the Week on Dec. 13, 2022.

Burkett and the Pokes will be back in action next month when they compete at the Colorado Classic, Feb. 6-7, in Boulder, Colo.
