Building fun and community brick by brick — New Lego store opens in LaGrange

TORRINGTON — A new store selling Legos of all kinds is now open in Goshen County. Wyoming Brickworks, a bright yellow building on 5th Avenue in LaGrange, offers hundreds of Lego sets, bulk Legos, pre-owned Legos, and even a creative space to build.
Owner Linnea Dix said she had considered opening a business for some time as a way to revitalize space in downtown LaGrange and give her children hands-on experience in all aspects of running a business.
When her brother, who operates Lego stores in Pennsylvania, decided to consolidate, Dix found herself with the opportunity to acquire the merchandise and supplies she needed to open her own Lego store. With only one other Lego store in Wyoming and three teenage boys who already had a passion for Legos, opening a Lego store was a perfect fit.
Dix found a closed bar in downtown LaGrange that was vacant, and she went to work bleaching floors, painting, replacing the roof and creating displays, getting licenses and otherwise preparing the space.
In just a few weeks, the store was ready for its grand opening on November 29, the day after Thanksgiving.
Dix shared that while it was a significant amount of work to make the space ready in such a short time, she had support from many members of the community who would drop by to lend their expertise or help out with the physical work, even fixing some lighting issues.
Since the store opened, Dix has had more customers than expected, coming from all over Goshen County and as far as Cheyenne.
The store currently carries Legos for all interests, including the Lego Friends line, Star Wars sets, Minecraft, Spider-Man, the botanical collection, and all kinds of mini figures.
Wyoming Brickworks is also buying and trading Legos.
It even carries discontinued collectors’ sets.
Although the store is not an official Lego franchise, it is an authorized retailer, which allows it to buy and sell other brands, such as Mega Blocks and other compatible brands.
Wyoming Brickworks offers designated times for people to come and build themed sets.
In December, groups created Christmas builds, and Dix looks forward to offering Valentine’s sets in February. Her plan is to have one themed project each month for both youth and adult build times, so those who miss one week can pick up the next.
Youth builds are held on Thursday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and adult build night is Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The store can also host Lego birthday parties for up to 10 kids.
As Dix put it, “I don’t want to just build a store; I want to build a community” of Lego builders of all ages, skill levels, and interests.
Wyoming Brickworks is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 1 p.m.
