BRAD A. THOMSON
Β βJan. 8, 2026
Brad A. Thomson, age 68, passed away on Jan. 8, 2026, at his home in Lake Wales, Florida.
He was born in Casper, Wyoming, and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota. In his early years, he served in the United States Marine Corps PVT, Vietnam veteran, a role he carried privately and without fanfare. He was a father of three, and a man whose life moved through distinct chapters.
Over the course of his life, he walked many paths β known fully to some and only partially to others. To those who loved him early on, he was Dad β a role that carried meaning, memory, and emotion that changed over time.
Life did not unfold simply, and relationships evolved in ways that were sometimes distant and sometimes quiet. Still, he remains part of the story of those who came from him. There are memories β some clear, some faded β held with a mix of gratitude, sadness, and reflection. Even when time and circumstance created space, the connection was never entirely erased.
He is remembered not only for who he was, but for the impact of his presence, however brief or complicated it may have been. His life reminds us that families are imperfect, that love can be layered, and that remembrance does not require full understanding.
He is survived by his children, Dawn (Rick) Tiegs, Brad Jr. (Carrie) Thomson, and Derricka (Joe) Hansen; grandchildren Justice (Emma) Miller and ShawnMarie (Gavin) Lubovinsky, Austin Gieswein, and Wyatt Thomson, Claire, Thomas, Alice, and Benjamin Hansen; great-grandson, River Lubovinsky; siblings, Donna (Pat) Wendt, Debbie (Don) Morgan, Sky (Libby) Thomson, and Greg (Peggy) Thomson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He will be laid to rest July 20 at 2:30 p.m. with a Military Honors Service held at the Black Hills National Cemetery, with family and others whose lives intersected with his in ways known only to them. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that time be taken to reflect on the complexity of human relationships, and the grace it takes to carry them forward.
