The Bureau of Land Management’s Newcastle Field Office will burn approximately 1,245 acres of slash piles in Weston County between now and April 2022, according to a press release from the BLM dated Dec. 7.
“Pile burning is contingent upon fuel moistures and weather meeting appropriate treatment conditions on site. Smoke may be visible from surrounding areas during burning operations and days following as slash material consumes,” the release says.
Starting this week, and continuing throughout the winter months, the Newcastle office plans to burn several slash piles in Weston County and surrounding areas.
Planned burns in Weston County include Sherwood Phase II, treating approximately 517 acres roughly 8 miles northeast of Newcastle, east of Beaver Creek Road. Also occurring in the same area, 6.5 miles from Newcastle, is another 354 acres to be treated.
Other projects in the county include the treatment of approximately 162 acres near the Skull Creek area, roughly 13 miles northeast of Upton. Burns near Bear Canyon, approximately 10 acres 12 miles northeast of Newcastle, and near the state line, approximately 10 acres 8.5 miles northeast of Newcastle, will also be treated.
The Newcastle office will also perform burns near Linden and Hulett in three areas, totaling 426 acres.
