The Battle Belongs to God

Life is full of battles—mental, physical, and spiritual. But the Bible reminds us that the real fight isn’t against flesh and blood. In this post from Dean’s Bible Blog, you’ll be encouraged to stop striving in your own strength and start surrendering to God’s.
We live in a world where battles are constant in our mind, health, finances, etc. and we try to fight them with our own strength. Our mind says, “do something, fix it” This is because we are in a spiritual battle. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against dark powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places”. Ephesians 6:12
When we struggle with things, we try everything in our own strength, then fall into despair when we fail. Our strength does not come from striving; it comes from surrendering. Not by trying harder, but by surrendering more. Our human strength can’t overcome spiritual forces. The Bible says, “if you walk in the spirit, you won’t fulfill the lusts of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). Remember, Jesus overcame every temptation with the word of God.
When we are in an argument or disagreement, most of us know the answer is not getting into a physical fight, it is in talking and reasoning with the person. It’s the same with our spiritual life, speaking Gods word is our power. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat it’s fruit” (Proverbs 18:21).
Relying on God to fight our battles is like drowning, we are taught not to flail and splash but rather lay still and relax. There was a time when I used to say, ‘I feel like I’m lying flat on my back in the ocean—I don’t know what to do. That is when God took over. The more we surrender, the more God leads us. The Spirit won’t compete with the flesh; it waits for us to surrender.
Whatever you are struggling with, first and foremost repent of your sins so you can stand clean before God, because sin separates us from him. When Jesus healed people, He often told them to “stop sinning so nothing worse happens to you” (John 5:14). Then surrender and ask for his help, he delights in helping his children. Most people want God to help them, but they don’t want to give their life to him. Even if you have failed a million times, it’s never too late for God to help you.
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles”. (PSALM 34:17)
