Bat Night returns to Fort Laramie National Historic Site

TORRINGTON (WNE) — Fort Laramie National Historic Site will host Bat Night on Saturday, May 30, beginning at 8 p.m., giving visitors a rare chance to explore the fort after dark alongside park rangers and visiting bat researchers. 

The free event will feature specialized equipment to watch bats take flight and opportunities to help scientists record nighttime bat activity, contributing to ongoing research. 

Bats have lived at Fort Laramie since the military arrived and constructed the historic buildings still standing today. 

Under National Park Service stewardship, the site has become an important location for researchers studying bat behavior and treating white nose syndrome. 

University of Wyoming bat scientists will participate in the program.
