Arrest made in weekend homicide

RIVERTON (WNE) β€” The Riverton Police Department has arrested a man in connection with a reported homicide that occurred over the weekend.

Sterling Black, 25, was charged with second degree murder in the death of an unidentified Riverton woman. Second degree murder carries 20 years to life in prison and is used when a suspect allegedly kills someone with purpose and malice, but not premeditation.

Police were called at 6:59 a.m. on Saturday morning to The Ol' Wyoming Motel on Federal Boulevard, with the caller reporting a homicide.Β 

A deceased woman was reportedly found in one of the motel rooms. After nearly 12 hours on the case, the RPD said in a statement that homicide was suspected and that a firearm had been recovered at the scene.

The RPD is still investigating the case; anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 307-856-4891.
