Are you suffering?

Are you suffering and can’t understand why? This is a question that many of us grapple with at some point in our lives. In John 9:2-3, Jesus’ disciples asked Him about a man born blind, wondering if his or his parents’ sin caused his condition. Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him” (that God may be glorified).

This profound statement reveals a key truth: sometimes our suffering is not a result of personal sin but an opportunity for God’s glory to be revealed. Instead of asking God, “Why is this happening?” we should ask, “What is it You want to accomplish through this?” This shift in perspective aligns our hearts with God’s purposes.

Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” This verse assures us that even in our pain, God is at work, weaving everything for our ultimate good and His glory. Our suffering can become a platform for God to display His power, grace, and love.

James 1:2-4 encourages us to “consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” Trials refine our faith and build endurance, helping us grow into the people God desires us to be. They strengthen our character and deepen our dependence on Him.

Moreover, 2 Corinthians 1:4 tells us that God “comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” Our experiences of suffering enable us to empathize with and support others who are going through similar trials, extending God’s comfort and hope.

In your suffering, remember that God’s plans are perfect. Trust in Him and seek to glorify Him through your trials. Like the blind man in John 9, let your life be a testimony of God’s power and love. Everything that happens, even our pain, is an opportunity to glorify God. God never promised us a life free of pain or trouble, but He does promise to be with us no matter what we face. Embrace this truth and let it transform your perspective, turning your trials into a powerful witness of God’s faithfulness.
