The Board of Weston County Commissioners will meet with commissioners from both Goshen and Niobrara counties on Oct. 19 to select a replacement for Rep. Hans Hunt, R-Newcastle, who resigned on Oct. 1. Hunt is going to work on Sen. Cynthia Lummis’ staff in Washington, D.C.
As previously reported, the Republican Party Central Committees for Goshen, Niobrara and Weston counties will come together on Oct. 14 to select three candidates to fill the seat. This meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Lusk at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds, 4080 U.S. Highway 20.
In the spirit of transparency, Weston County Republican Party Chairman Kari Drost said that the public, regardless of party affiliation, is invited to attend the interview process during the Republican Party meeting.
According to the Weston County Commission Chairman Marty Ertman, the Oct. 19 meeting is also open to the public. This meeting will be held at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds at 10 a.m.
Because this is the day of the regularly scheduled commissioners’ meeting, Ertman said, the board will meet at the Weston County Courthouse to conduct some necessary business before leaving for Lusk. Commissioners will then reconvene in Lusk so the action conducted there will be an official meeting of the board, she said.
The process for replacing an elected official who has resigned is outlined in Wyoming Statute 22-18-111(a)(ii).
