RIVERTON (WNE) — It was 2:15 a.m. Sunday morning. On Riverton’s west side, a Frontier Ambulance was parked at SageWest’s emergency room entrance at the ready.

It’s unclear whether the engine was running or simply that the keys were inside, but several suspects apparently took advantage of the opportunity to take off with Frontier’s big-rig ride.

Dispatch was notified of the stolen ambulance at 2:36 a.m., and multiple police agencies responded. Officers located the stolen ambulance and gave chase through Riverton, then onto the Wind River Reservation.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office call log noted the driver was believed to be male and said he “rammed” several law enforcement vehicles, causing minor damage.

At some point during the high-speed chase, the ambulance thieves stopped at Riverton Oil Field Road, where they fled the vehicle on foot. Officers were unable to locate the suspects, according to the FCSO call log.

No law enforcement personnel were injured; the Riverton Police Department is investigating the incident and asking anyone with information or video footage to contact detectives at 307-856-4891.
