Almost Saved

Billy Sunday preached with fire, calling people to choose a side—Christ or the world. This post challenges believers to examine where they stand. There is no middle ground in God’s Kingdom.
"There are not enough people who are in earnest. In this world, you are either a sinner or a saint. You are either with Christ or you are against Him." – Billy Sunday
Billy Sunday was known as a bold, fiery evangelist. A former baseball player turned preacher, he didn’t hold back when it came to preaching the truth. He was what many called a hellfire-and-brimstone preacher, passionate about warning people of the dangers of sin and the urgency of salvation. He preached like souls were on the line—because they were.
Billy Sunday’s words remind us of the sharp contrast the Bible makes between those who are in Christ and those who are not. There is no middle ground in the Kingdom of God. This quote calls us to serious reflection: Where do we stand?
In our world, many try to walk a line between the things of God and the things of this world, but this passage challenges that mindset. Jesus Himself said:
“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” (Matthew 12:30)
There’s no neutrality when it comes to following Christ. The decision we make about Him defines every other decision we’ll ever make. This verse clearly states that if we are not for Christ, we are against Him. There is no room for being "on the fence" when it comes to faith. The time for indecision has passed. Either you’re in or you’re out. Which is it?
Living "in earnest"—as Billy Sunday describes—means living with conviction, passion, and dedication. It means we are not simply coasting along in our faith but are actively choosing daily to follow Christ. Are we truly seeking God’s will in our lives, or are we just passively going through the motions of religious duty?
“In the same way, faith also, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.” (James 2:17)
If we say we believe in Christ, but our lives don’t reflect that belief, our faith is empty. Faith is not just about agreeing with a set of truths; it’s about living in such a way that our actions, thoughts, and words align with God’s will. Faith should drive us to serve, love, and reflect Christ’s character in our lives.
Saint or sinner?
The reality is that we all fall into one of these two categories. We can’t be "almost saved" or "partly righteous."
“Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?” (Romans 6:16)
We are all slaves to something—either sin or righteousness. The choice is ours. The way we live reveals whom we serve. Are we serving sin, which leads to death, or are we serving righteousness, which leads to eternal life in Christ?
With Christ or against Him?
Jesus made it clear that there is no neutral ground. The question for all of us is, "Are we with Him or against Him?" Are we actively choosing Christ every day, or are we allowing the distractions of the world to pull us away from our first love?
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:15–16)
Jesus is calling us to wholehearted devotion. He doesn’t want us to remain in a state of indecision or lukewarmness. A half-hearted commitment is not enough to experience the fullness of His grace and power. We are called to live fully for Him—to be "hot" in our love and devotion to Christ.
Billy Sunday’s challenge echoes the call of Scripture: we are either for Christ or against Him. There is no room for compromise or indifference.
Let us choose this day whom we will serve, and let our lives reflect our commitment to follow Him fully.
