The Newcastle Dogies turned in a strong performance at the 3A East Regional Track and Field Championships, finishing sixth in both the boys and girls team standings while qualifying 17 athletes for this week’s state meet in Casper.

Highlighting the weekend was sophomore Landen Hill’s regional championship in the high jump, while junior Adalyn Olson broke two school records she had previously set in the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash.

“Dogie Nation had an outstanding showing at the 3A East Regional Track Meet,” the coaching staff said in comments provided following the meet. “Both our men’s and women’s teams placed sixth overall, and we are excited to announce that 17 athletes will be representing Newcastle High School at the State Track & Field Meet in Casper this coming week.”

The Newcastle girls finished sixth in the regional team standings behind standout performances from Olson, who qualified in multiple events and captured the regional long jump title with a leap of 17 feet, 10.75 inches. Olson also posted the top preliminary time in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.46 seconds and finished second in preliminaries of both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.

“We are incredibly proud of how all our Dogie Track & Field athletes competed,” the coaches said. “Many came close to qualifying for State, and we as coaches are thrilled with the progress made throughout the season.”

The coaching staff also praised the team’s overall improvement throughout the spring.

“Keep training, stay focused, and continue pushing yourselves to reach your full potential next year — we’re already looking forward to next season,” the coaches said.
