Soccer Travels to Idaho State on Thursday Before Hosting Colorado Mesa on Sunday

LARAMIE, Wyoming (9/9/25) – The University of Wyoming soccer team is back in action with a pair of matches this week. The Cowgirls travel to Idaho State on Thursday for a game at Davis Field at 7 p.m. before returning home Sunday for a contest against Colorado Mesa at the Madrid Sports Complex at 1 p.m. Thursday’s match is on ESPN-Plus and Sunday’s is on the Mountain West Network.

The Pokes, who sit at 3-1-1 overall, are fresh off arguably their biggest win in program history. They defeated No. 15 Georgia, 1-0, in Athens last week. That result, paired with a competitive 2-1 loss at Colorado – a game Wyoming led for 60 minutes – will help the Pokes going forward.

“The way we were able to adapt and stay composed and solve problems and how we weren’t phased on how a team plays or if they’re in a different style or shape, will benefit us,” head coach Josh Purdum said. “That speaks to the maturity within the group and how much we’ve been able to grow.”

The strong recent showings have also given the Cowgirls confidence that their best is plenty good enough to contend with any other team they come across.

“There are going to be teams that have to adjust to us, and they’re going to start playing differently, as well,” Purdum said. “We’ve got to continue to trust our style and our system and how we defend and how we attack, and the rest will take care of itself.”

Alyssa Glover has been the tip of the spear for Wyoming so far this season. She has nine points off four goals and an assist. Kiley Ballek has found the back of the net twice for four points, while Raegan Richardson – a goal and an assist -- and Jennah Wanner, with three assists, have three points apiece.

Goalkeeper, Haley Bartel, makes it all stand up. She has 16 saves and has only allowed three goals for a GAA of 0.60. Bartel has also logged a trio of shutouts.

Idaho State possesses a 2-2-2 overall mark. The Bengals are winless in their last three matches, however, they’re 2-1-1 in Pocatello this season.

Talia Coury paces the Bengals with three goals for six points, while Mary Za isn’t far behind at five points off a pair of goals and an assist. Hannah Wieler has started every match in net and registered 23 saves with nine goals allowed for a GAA of 1.54.

Wyoming holds a 9-4-1 lead in the all-time series with Idaho State. The Pokes have won six of the past seven with the only loss being the most recent meeting in the 2023 when the Bengals won 3-0 in Laramie.

Colorado Mesa is 2-0-0 on the young season and hosts Northwest Nazarene on Thursday. The Mavericks have already recorded a pair of 4-0 wins.

Kylie Wells leads Colorado Mesa with three goals for six points. Both Sarah Dunn and Brooklyn Baird have scored twice this season. Keely Wieczorek has patrolled the net both games and has yet to allow a score with seven saves.

Wyoming and Colorado Mesa have only met once before, and it was an exhibition contest in 1999. The Mavericks claimed a 1-0 victory.

Following Sunday’s Senior Day celebration, the Cowgirls are back on the road one last time in the non-conference. They go to South Dakota State on Sept. 18 and South Dakota on Sept. 21.
