Riverton welcomes Amazon facility
RIVERTON (WNE) — Riverton celebrated a grand opening and ribbon-cutting event Wednesday for the new Amazon Delivery Station nestled in the Eastern Shoshone Business Park, which was quietly planned and constructed over the last several years and has now added 50 warehouse jobs and another 125 flex driver positions to the region.
Local leaders gathered with Gov. Mark Gordon to cheer on the development and get a behind-the-scenes tour of operations at the new facility.
The new Riverton Amazon location, along with facilities in Casper, Gillette and Rock Springs, brings the number of Wyoming Amazon full and part-time jobs to about 300, along with hundreds of more flex drivers.
The new facility, which began operations in March, is continuing to ramp up operations to up to 4,200 packages a day and 30,000 annually. The delivery station serves Fremont County and the Wind River Reservation and allows local customers to receive their packages in two days – a first for Fremont County.
"The Eastern Shoshone Business Park has been, I think, transformative for our community," Riverton Mayor Tim Hancock said. "There are so many communities around the state that are jealous … There's a lot of excitement here."
About 60% of Amazon sales are through small and medium sized businesses, and the company has spurred economic development through $1.4 billion in loans to eligible small businesses.Company reps noted that some of the fastest growing sellers are in rural states like Wyoming, and gave a nod to Lander-based Maven as an example of the way Amazon can connect businesses with global buyers.
As part of the celebration, Amazon representatives announced several local donations, including a $30,000 check to the Wyoming State 4-H Foundation and a $40,000 STEM scholarship to a local Riverton student.
