John Marshall, President of The Upton Economic Development Board, visited with the News Letter Journal regarding recent progress on the Upton Logistics Park and its Railcar Repair and Cleaning Facility. The project includes the building of a 40,000-square-foot rail car cleaning and repair facility to be built on a lot owned by the UEDB next to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad main line. Additionally, approximately 11,000 linear feet of rail and 14 rail switches will be added to current infrastructure. The total cost of the project is estimated at nearly $16 million.
The business venture, two and a half years in the making, is nearing completion if and when the last of the funding comes through. If all goes well, Marshall and company hope to break ground in April or May.
“It’s a big project, but it’s very complex as well with all the paperwork, compiling funding contributors, and hoops to jump through,” Marshall disclosed. “There are a lot of different people that you have to talk to and make sure that everyone is on the same page in support of the project.”
