One killed in two-vehicle crash in Gillette

GILLETTE (WNE) — A 32-year-old Gillette man died after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.

Jordan Callender was driving a 2021 GMC Sierra south on Garner Lake Road when he crossed the center line and collided with a red vac truck that was traveling north. The crash occurred in a construction zone in the 4000 block of South Garner Lake Road shortly after 2:30 p.m.

At this time, it’s unknown why Callender crossed the center line, said Deputy Tommie Verhasselt. Based on the evidence, it does not appear that Callender applied his brakes before the crash, Verhasselt said, but there were brake marks from the vac truck.

Police officers were the first to arrive on scene and tried rendering life-saving measures, said Police Capt. Eric Vos. Callender was extricated from the pickup by firefighters. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem.

The 50-year-old driver of the vac truck and a 39-year-old passenger were checked out at the scene and released.

The Sheriff's Office is working with Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Wyoming Department of Transportation to investigate the crash.
