In spite of cold, rain, wind and lightning delays, the Newcastle Dogie Track team ended their season on a high note last weekend at the 3A State Meet in Casper. After putting a contender in the finals of nearly every event, the Dogies left their mark and brought home some hardware— along with some new personal bests.
“I couldn’t be more proud of how our kids did last weekend,” head coach Chad Ostenson beamed. “They did everything a coach could hope for— setting PRs or being close to it— and if you can get to the state meet and be performing at your best, that’s everything we shoot for.”
Junior Cade Ostenson claimed the highest finish for Newcastle with his second place, 21-08.75 foot leap in the long jump. In the process, he became the only Dogie to earn All-State honors for the season. Who would win the state title was in question right up until the bitter end, as Ostenson and Marc Wodahl of Buffalo exchanged the lead back and forth, with the latter securing the honor by only 1.25 inches.
