Living Like God Sees Everything, Because He Does

“For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:14)

Think about that for a moment. God will bring every act into judgment. Nothing is hidden from Him, not even the things we have hidden from everyone else.

He sees every action, every thought, and every motive. He sees the things we did that we should not have done, and He sees the things we knew we should have done but chose to ignore. He sees every time we knew the truth but chose comfort instead. He sees every time we compromised His Word because we wanted to fit in, avoid trouble, or keep the peace.

He also sees every secret sin, every selfish motive, and every missed opportunity to show someone the love and truth of Christ.

We may be able to hide things from our family, our friends, our church, and even ourselves, but we cannot hide anything from God.

“And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must answer.” (Hebrews 4:13)

Most people live as though their private life belongs only to them. They believe that as long as no one knows what they are doing, it does not matter. They may look faithful on Sunday while living a completely different life during the rest of the week.

God is not fooled by appearances. He does not only see what we do. He sees why we do it. A good deed done for praise is not the same as a good deed done for His glory. A prayer spoken to impress others is not the same as a prayer spoken from a humble heart.

One day, every person will stand before God.

For the person who has rejected Christ, that should be terrifying. Sin will be judged, and no excuse will stand before a holy God. Good intentions, religious works, and comparisons with other people will not save anyone. The only hope for a sinner is Jesus Christ, who paid the price for sin on the cross and rose from the dead.

The believer does not face condemnation because Christ has already borne that judgment. However, that does not mean the way we live no longer matters. Every believer will still give an account of his life to God.

“So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:12)

We will answer for how we used the time, abilities, opportunities, and truth God gave us. We will answer for the words we spoke, the choices we made, and the obedience we delayed. Grace does not give us permission to live carelessly. Grace teaches us to live for the One who saved us.

Grace is free, but it was not cheap. Forgiveness is available, but judgment is still real.

The fact that God sees everything is not meant to drive the believer into shame. It is meant to wake us up. It should cause us to examine our hearts, confess our sins, and stop pretending that hidden disobedience does not matter.

“If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth.” (1 Peter 1:17)

The fear of God is not the fear of a cruel ruler waiting to destroy us. It is a deep respect for the holy God who made us, sees us, and will judge us fairly. It is remembering that our lives belong to Him.

Living as though God sees everything will change the way we speak when no one is listening. It will change what we watch, what we think about, how we treat people, and what we do when no one is there to praise us.

The truth is simple.

God sees everything.

The question is whether we are living like we believe it.
