Light up Weston County

One of Weston County’s newest holiday traditions is returning, and it thrives because of the people who make this community shine. The News Letter Journal’s annual Christmas Lights Cruise has grown into a countywide celebration of creativity, generosity and holiday cheer.

Each December, families bundle up, load into the car and wind through neighborhoods illuminated by the imagination of their neighbors. It is a tradition built on community participation, and that is why we are asking for your help.

As we prepare for this year’s cruise, we need readers in Newcastle and Upton to submit the addresses of the homes and displays that deserve to be included in the map we will publish in the print edition and online. Whether it is an elaborate light show or a simple, but heartfelt display, the best decorations are the ones that bring joy to those who pass by.

All submissions will appear on a full-color page in our Christmas edition on Dec. 25, sponsored by Black Hills Energy. They will also be featured in an interactive Google Map that helps families plan routes and make the most of their holiday outings.

For many, the lights cruise marks the moment the season truly begins. It encourages us to slow down, admire the work of our neighbors, and remember that small efforts can brighten an entire community.

In a world that often feels rushed and divided, this tradition offers a reminder of what we can build when everyone contributes something meaningful. It brings generations together and creates memories that last long after the lights come down.
