Laramie, Wyo. (Oct. 4, 2025) An outstanding student-athlete and two dedicated student workers are the winners of the 2025 Admiral Land Award and Trophy, a longtime Wyoming homecoming tradition. This year's Award winner is former basketball player player Allyson Fertig, and the Trophy winners are game management interns Brayden Williams and Aidan Buchanan. The announcement was made at Saturday's Wyoming-UNLV Homecoming football game.

The Admiral Land Award is presented to the student-athlete(s) who has completed his or her Wyoming competition during the preceding academic year and demonstrated outstanding achievement in intercollegiate competition, exemplary personal conduct during competition, and maintained academic standing with satisfactory progress toward a degree.  The Admiral Land Trophy is awarded to the student (non-collegiate athlete) who has done the most to promote Intercollegiate Athletics at the University during the previous school year.

A native of Glendo, Wyoming, Fertig is one of the most-decorated basketball players ever to compete at Wyoming.  She was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in 2025. The 6-foot-4 center from Glendo left UW as the program's all-time leader in rebounds (1,216), second in scoring (1,860 points) behind Christine Fairless (1,933, 1985-89) and third in blocks (210) behind Lori Kline (322, 1979-82) and Hillary Carlson (212, 2008-11). Her senior year, she also competed in the shot put for the UW Track Team.  She graduated in May with a degree in Secondary Education. She is currently playing professionally in Germany.

Williams and Buchanan are the co-winners of the Admiral Land Trophy. They are both juniors and have worked as game management interns for three years. Williams is a business management major from Laramie and he works at both Jacoby Golf Course and Intercollegiate Athletics.  Brayden’s dedication to behind-the-scenes service has been exemplary.  A tireless worker, Brayden works with all 17 sports and specializes in operating facilities and event production.  He is the son of Brett and Tracy Williams of Laramie. Buchanan works in both Athletics Game Management and at UWIT.  He is a team leader and is the main point of contact for volunteer workers.  Aiden also works with all 17 sports and does whatever is needed to make sure UW Athletic events run smoothly.  He is the son of Lane and Kim Buchanan of Laramie.

The Admiral Land awards have been a special part of Homecoming since 1953.  They were established as a tribute to distinguished UW alumnus Admiral Emory S. Land, class of 1898.  Land was a World War II Shipping Administrator and head of the U.S. Maritime Service.  At UW, he was a member of the first football team and four of the first five teams in school history.
