Get ready Dogie and Calves athletes! The 2022 Fall season is about to begin!
The summer has flown by, and while we may grieve the end of lazy days and nights, the fall sports seasons — less than a week away from getting under way — are super exciting!
Pre-season practices get under way on Monday, Aug. 15, so aspiring athletes from sixth grade through seniors are gearing up to start their bids for a title.
All athletes must have their up-to-date physicals completed by the time practices start on Monday, so this is the time to get that done if you have put it off. All coaches want to remind parents and athletes that in order to be eligible to compete in the first contest of the season, each athlete must have participated in nine practices, therefore, no physical on Monday morning means having to sit out the first contest.

NHS Ladies’ Swimming
The Lady Dogie swim team will dive into their 2022 season at 3 on Monday, Aug. 15, at the Kozisek Aquatic Center. Returning Head Coach Doug Scribner will hold the parent meeting at 6 p.m. at the Aquatic Center on Monday as well.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, practice will begin at 3:45 at the pool, on Thursday, Aug. 18, the team will meet at the Aquatic Center at 11 a.m. to travel to Gillette for a training camp from 1 to 5, and normal practice time will resume on Friday, the 19th.
Scribner is encouraging his swimmers to have their goals in mind and be ready to get to work, and the ladies will have their first chance to achieve their goals on Friday, Aug. 26, as they travel back to Gillette for their opening contest.

NHS and NMS Cross Country
NHS Head Coach Kathy Beehler and NMS Head Coach Jessica Troftgruben are excited to get the 2022 cross country season under way. All athletes will meet at Kozisek Aquatic Center for their first practice at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15. High school runners only will return at 3:45 for their second practice of the day.
Tuesday, Aug. 16, is slated for a Lap-a-thon Fundraiser practice, and then Wednesday through Friday high school athletes will have two-a-day practices at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and middle school runners will join the 6 p.m. practices as well.
On Saturday, Aug. 20, all runners will meet at the pool at 6 a.m. for the team’s annual Black Elk Peak run, and the first meet is the Dogie Open, high school only, at the golf course on Thursday, Aug. 25. Middle School runners will compete for the first time on Friday, Sept. 2, in Spearfish.

NHS Volleyball
The Lady Dogie netters will start their season on Monday, Aug. 15, with a new head coach. Mickey Trimble-Crabtree volunteered with the team last season, and has moved into the head coach position this year.
The squad will hit the court running with two-a-day practices all week with the first of the day going from 6 to 8 a.m. and the second from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dogie Dome. Crabtree is planning a team-bonding activity for Friday morning as well.
The varsity and JV Lady Dogies will begin competition when they head to Douglas for their invitational tournament on Friday, Aug. 26. The freshman will get started as they host the Freshman Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 27.

NMS Volleyball
The Lady Calves will begin their season with practice at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, at the middle school gym. The eighth grade team will travel to Buffalo for their opening contest on Saturday, Aug. 27.

NHS Football
Returning head coach Matt Conzelman is very excited for the season to start on Monday, Aug. 15, at Schoonmaker Stadium. Players need to meet at the stadium by 6:30 a.m. to kick things off.
Conzelman will be holding a parent meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 6 p.m. in the NHS Commons area. He encourages all parents to attend the meeting as he will be covering the football handbook and having parents complete school forms for the season. Parents and athletes will also receive more information regarding the upcoming season at the meeting.
A new activities director in South Dakota threw a monkey wrench into the team’s schedule as he removed the zero week contest against Hot Springs this year. As such, there is a possibility that the team will travel to Douglas for a jamboree against Douglas and Cody for the zero week contest. If not, the team will kick off their season on Friday, Sept. 2, as they travel to Buffalo to take on the Bison.

NMS Football
The Calves will get their season underway at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, at the practice field. Their first contest is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 20, in Belle Fourche.
