For over a year now members of the community have watched as the Newcastle Area Chamber of Commerce pulled away from events the organization had hosted for years. The chamber cited a need to “restructure” its function in the community as the reason for doing so.
Now, Director Holly Borton has defined the new goals and mission of the chamber. She did this on May 22 when she was invited by the Weston County Commissioners to a budget workshop to discuss rumors the commissioners had heard about the chamber, which was requesting a funding increase from the county for fiscal
According to County Clerk Jill Sellers, the Newcastle chamber received $2,975 in fiscal 2017 and $2,900 in fiscal 2018. For fiscal 2019, the chamber is requesting $3,500, an increase of $600 from 2018.
