GILLETTE (WNE) — The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who was last seen on June 12 in the Weston Hills Recreation Area.

Derek Schaff, a self-proclaimed survivalist, Capt. Paul Pownall said, was reported missing on June 19 by Schaff’s girlfriend. Deputies found Schaff’s work vehicle stuck in rough terrain on June 17.

Campbell County has worked with agencies from Weston, Natrona and Sheridan counties in the search for Schaff.

It’s possible that Schaff aimed to go on a camping trip without telling anyone, Pownall said.

The investigation continues as deputies deploy trackers and other resources.
