Small Impactful Ways To Give Back to the Community

Generosity can go a long way. You never know what people go through during their daily life, and your kind gesture could’ve made their entire week. Now more than ever, we should continue to invest our time in bettering our communities. From volunteering and fundraising to hosting events, there are many things you can do to uplift those around you.
You can inspire others to do the same by making these small yet effective gestures. This will help eliminate social problems and increase the health and well-being of your community. However, it’s important to remember that money doesn’t have to be attached to doing a good deed. Here are small, impactful ways to give back to the community.
Participate in a Community Event
The best donation you can give is your time. Finding something you’re passionate about, whether that be giving back to veterans or giving back to children, you should participate in their events. Your time is valuable, and some organizations need all the help they can get. It doesn’t matter if you’re passing out water bottles or greeting people at the door; you can positively impact someone’s day.
Join a Community Garden
Community gardens have many benefits. They give communities better access to fresh foods and eliminate food insecurity. By joining a community garden, you can partner with other community members and spread the word about the importance of eating healthy. Gardening also has personal benefits, including boosting your mood and providing a soothing hobby. You can also create new friendships by bonding over fruits and veggies.
Support Local Businesses
A small, impactful way to give back to the community is to support local businesses. Instead of ordering a personalized item from Amazon, why not go to a local store? This will help boost your neighborhood’s economy and help build business relationships, too. Remember that most local businesses don’t have a large task force to help push out orders as fast as large retail companies. So, be patient and show a little compassion.
Donate Used Items
Sometimes we have more items than we think. Instead of throwing these items in a box and locking it in storage, you can give them to someone who may need them. For example, winter is near, and many people need blankets, coats, gloves, and hats to keep warm. Check your closet for items you haven’t worn in years—that are in GREAT condition— and donate them to a community organization.
Send Holiday Cards to Older Adults
Older adults are the backbone of our communities. They help build your neighborhoods to where they are today, and we should always show compassion toward them. Sometimes the holiday season can get lonely for older adults, especially those in residential living facilities. Dropping off a card with holiday cookies and snacks is a great way to spread kindness throughout the entire community.
