A place to reflect
To the Editor:
I would like to express my support for the Veterans Memorial, as well as my opinion on Heritage Park.
First off I completely disagree with the way the survey works, it implies that you like something over another, which is not the case for me. I agree with the memorial and disagree with the rest. A memorial is as it states: a structure established to remind people of a person or event, in this case those who unselfishly donned a military uniform and made the ultimate sacrifice for future generations.
I feel by adding a market place and splash pad you detract from the true meaning of the memorial. When I think of Veteran Memorials, I think of The Vietnam Wall, World War II, Flanders Field — of which none have market places, band stands and splash pads.
Personally, I feel the farmers’ market should be moved back to the fairgrounds where there is shade, rest rooms, places to sit, green grass and it is much cooler. I attended the market once after the move and quit because it’s hot, dry and no shade.
The memorial should have benches to sit for reflection and admiration of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, not a playground for the city.
