DALE DeWAYNE (SOLAAS) WOOD

June 20, 1959–Aug. 22, 2021

Dale DeWayne (Solaas) Wood was born on June 20, 1959, and left us peacefully Aug. 22, 2021.

He was born in Newcastle, Wyo., and grew up in the community of Osage. Over the years he ventured to many places throughout the country before returning to his hometown to retire and help the community. Though his body may be done, the tales of Dale’s generosity and exploits will live on for many years to come.

During his life, he worked hard and played hard. Whether taking on jobs in the oil field, running a chain saw, or climbing way up into cooling towers, he wasn’t afraid to get out and get it done. He loved traveling, fishing, camping, and entertaining both family and friends alike. Anyone who has ever had a drink with him will remember him for his cringe-worthy jokes, tall tales, stubbornness, and being all-around good-spirited ornery. He had a talent for making something form nothing and sharing it with his friends. Dale will be remembered for his work within the community as well as his willingness to lend a helping hand to everyone in Osage and beyond.

Dale is survived by two brothers, Joe (Janice) Wood Jr., and Mike (Lisa) Wood of Osage; three children, Lyle (Elly) Wood of Denver, Colo., Shawn Wood of Bozeman, Mont., and Hannah Wood (Tom Foster) of Gillette, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Michael Weber, Adam Jackson, Adallyn Foster, and Aiden Foster; as well as uncountable others whose lives have been touched by his courage,
friendship, and love.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Marjorie Wood; and his two sisters, Deborah Kennedy-Wood and Candy Shelly-Wood.

A special thanks to Mike Ankeney for planing the wood and Dan Hammond for building the coffin.

Graveside service was Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. at Garhart Family Cemetery, and memorial service was Aug. 28 at noon at Kitty Moats Community Center in Osage.
