Six Weston County girls attended Wyoming Girls State on June 10-16. They were Annika Coberley and Elizabeth Stephens from Upton; and Arianna Anderson, Paige Liggett, Abrienne Sharpes and Adrionna Jerry went from Newcastle.
Since 1941, Wyoming Girls State, which is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, has educated young women about government through hands-on experience. Girls State helps young women learn how government runs through mock elections, role-playing as members of the Wyoming House of Representatives, Senate and the courts; and much more. Sens. John Barrasso and Mike Enzi and Gov. Matthew Mead, among other government officials, also spoke at the event.
