Great coworkers, solid benefits, and enjoyable work allowed Newcastle native Calvin Cook to make a living and raise his family in the same community he grew up in, but Cook finally retired as the area maintenance crew leader on July 18th after thirty-two years with the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).

“I enjoyed what I was doing and they had good benefits and good retirement, but mainly I think it was for enjoyment. I really liked what I was doing and the job helped me raise my family,” Cook told the News Letter Journal.

He started working at WYDOT, then the Wyoming Highway Department, in 1985 as a maintenance worker ‘one.’ He then gradually climbed the ladder in the department by first becoming a heavy equipment operator in 1994 and eventually being promoted to foreman in 1996.
