WIC numbers down

Guidelines for eligibility for the Women, Infant and Children program recently changed, allowing for families to make more money and still qualify for the services. Despite the increased range of eligibility, the Newcastle office has experienced a decrease in the number of people using the program, while Upton and Crook counties are keeping steady numbers.

According to Connie James RN Clinic Supervisor, between 2013 and 2017 Newcastle has seen a drop in WIC participants. In 2013, 133 people utilized the program and to date in 2017 only 76 people have signed up for the nutrition-based program.
