Weather whips the fun out of State Track

It was an equal— but terrible— playing field that Wyoming’s top athletes competed on as the 3A State Track Meet got underway in Casper last Thursday. The annual showcase saw athletes suffering through snow, wind, rain and cold temperatures as they competed in the culminating event of the year.

“I talked to a few of those older coaches who have been around for a while, and they said it was one of the worst State Meets they can remember, with both the cold and the snow,” head coach Chad Ostenson told the News Letter Journal.

Eight Dogies, however, weathered the storm and found a way to excel in spite of the conditions to bring home some hardware when all was said and done, and senior Jacob Esposito fought through the conditions to claim the only All-State award won by Newcastle when he finished second in the 110 meter hurdles.
