Thirty years ago Jan and John Ellis, with the help of John’s parents, opened Weston County True Value Home Center, hoping to fill a need for lumber and hardware supplies in Newcastle. And the store is still doing that and more.
When they opened their doors in 1988, Jan continued to teach choir in Weston County School District No. 1 while John focused on the business.
Parents then of two young children, they decided to embark on a journey that would allow them to enjoy their family and participate in the community.
“John was a contractor, and when the lumber yard closed down, we saw that there was a need for hardware and lumber supplies in town,” Jan recalled.
