The Mondell Field Airport in Newcastle utilized Morrison Maierle of Gillette who recently concluded a master plan update that has been in the works for two years, according to the airport’s manager, Tuff Streeter. The master plan, a requirement of the state and Federal Aviation Administration, Streeter said, is a complete look at the airport in its present state and the future goals of the facility.
The Weston County Airport Board hired the Gillette firm to study the airport and provide recommendations.
“They look at the current condition, from the hangars to the number of planes based at the airport. They did new surveying of the area,” Streeter told the Newcastle City Council on June 4. “They also look at the future plan, the needs and wishes of the airport and community and what the facility is looking at down the road.”
To bring the master plan to a close, the airport held an open house on June 21 at the Newcastle Lodge and Convention Center to present the findings.
