Local Forest Service fire crew to be downsized

Black Hills residents welcome the respite winter gives them from wildland fire season, but agencies charged with controlling the blazes that occur during the warmer months of the year are already preparing for the summer.

According to a press release issued by the Bureau of Land Management Wyoming State Office, the BLM is now accepting applications for seasonal fire jobs for the summer of 2018.

“We’re looking for people from all walks of life who enjoy the outdoors, have a sense of adventure and are interested in joining our workforce.  These positions include firefighters assigned to engines, hand crews or helicopters, prescribed fire and dispatch,” Fire Prevention Specialist Carmen Thomason said in the press release.
