The Weston County Commissioners and County Clerk Jill Sellers have been preparing the county’s budget for several months. On July 3, Sellers presented the tentative budget to the commissioners and reported that the public hearing would be held July 16 at 7 p.m. at the Weston County Annex.
Chairman Tony Barton questioned the amount of money being put into balance accounts for fiscal year 2019, which began on July 1. Commissioner Tracy Hunt referred to these accounts as “rat hole accounts” and said that he believes it is not fair to the public because it is not very transparent.
“It is unfair to the public to try and sort out what is an actual budgeted amount and what is a ‘rat hole,’ Hunt said. “We need to stick that money where everyone can see it.”
